About

“I have walked through many lives,
some of them my own,
and I am not who I was,
though some principle of being
abides, from which I struggle
not to stray.”
The Layers ~ Stanley Kunitz

Cate is a Melbourne/Naarm-based painter whose work interrogates memory, identity, and the strange ways the self keeps shifting. Drawing from personal archives and found images, she uses digital processes as a starting point, translating photography’s fixed moments into paintings that unfold slowly, layer by layer. Images blur, erode, and resurface, testing the fragile line between past and present, truth and invention. Grounded in autobiography yet reaching outward, her practice treats memory as something unstable and shared, both tender and unreliable, while gently questioning how contemporary mediums shape what, and how, we remember. She is in her final year of a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT University.
